Mixed Messages

Did anyone catch the woman walking around the Market with an "Affordable Health Care" sign and a $4+ cup of Starbucks in the other hand. Seems like a mixed message when health care can be obtained for the cost of that over priced cup of joe. Or was she saying that Starbucks doesn't provide affordable health care and she was attempting to help them by buying the expensive cup of coffee. I'm sure Schultz will get the money sent right to the health care portion of their budget...

What is your take on this message?

Cherry Chocolate Chunk

we may have some additional selection she hasn't told us about. You'll have to stop in this evening to find out for yourself!

Do you have skeltons in your closet?

Maybe you can go tobogganing with me then! We can freeze the hill out front and go screaming down together! It has been nearly cold enough lately. First one to the bottom buys the next bottle of wine. Tonight is a perfect night with the film crew already blocking off the street. See you here!

Lifestyles of 94

A typical day for me at 94 Stewart starts with a shopping list from Chef. Sometimes it requires just a short trip to Frank's for some fresh produce and herbs, other times I am sent to Pure Foods for fish, and Don and Joe's for the best cuts of meat in the city. A few days ago I was directed to Market Spice, the Mexican Grocery with the hanging chili peppers, and La Buona Tavola. We support the community we are a part of, and they support us. Everyone knows your name, or at least your face. I'm often called 'the 94 Stewart Boy!', it's like I'm almost famous.

After the errands, it's time for some blogging, or good old fashioned side work, stocking, and a shot of espresso to get the mind ready for a busy night of serving.

Things should be better than ever this evening, perfect weather, high spirits, and to top it all off we have these marvelous tarts:

Maple Nut
Cheesecake with Strawberries
Marcona Almond Joy
Chocolate Covered Cherry Tart
Coconut Macaroon

Now that you know what a typical day for me is like, come see what a night in the life of 94 is all about!

Until next time,
V

From Vancouver to Vegas

Since it is ok to gamble our saving away again we will be taking what is left and be leaving the Olympic stadium and heading directly for Las Vegas where a table game or two has a our name on it. Who knows what we'll find along the way. Maybe a stop in at 94 Stewart. It is always a great value for market fresh dishes. This evening I hear Chef Celinda has prepared some of her amazing Tomato Coconut Bisque with just the right amount of zip. As for desserts I'll just have to wait to get there to decide. I know I'm going to finish with one of their award winning coffee beverages. Maybe a perfectly dry cappuccino. Only thing left is to decide the type of wine. If I have steak and she has seafood I'm sure my server can come up with something that will work for both of us and if all else fails we get a bottle each.

Amuse Bouche - Valentine's 2010

What was that Amuse Bouche on the Valentine's Menu? I noticed someone was confused by it in a review on Yelp.

Moments after our fresh shipment from Grande Central Bakery arrived Chef had her assistant in the kitchen for the weekend go to work on slicing the toasts. From there they were put in the oven.

After preparing the fresh crunchy semolina baguette toast they topped them with thinly sliced house Muscovy Duck Rillete and layered them with fresh Orange Marmalade made with Black Sherry.

They were great! The crunchy, butter laden toast. The creamy rillete melted in my mouth and the tangy sherried orange was outstanding. I should know, as I personally ate six of them. Thank you for the leftovers!

Here Comes The Sun

My... oh my.
This morning the skies were dark and dreary, Seattle looked remarkably like Transylvania, and socks everywhere were soaking, sloppy wet. Then, Surprise! The weather cleared up and the sun is now peeking through the overcast. It's turning out to be a nice day after all. This change in atmospheric fortune is reason to celebrate the cute little sun at 94. Stop by before catching the bus home for a happy hour cocktail and snack. Or strut on in for dinner where you can toast your Seasonal Affective Disorder away with a marvelous glass of wine, delightful fare, and one of these tasty little numbers:

Caramel Apple Tart
Valrhona Tart
Cherry Chunk
Snickerdoodle
Coconut Macaroon Tart

Cheers!
